Crocheters/Knitters:
Our yarn bins have been organized by weight/ply and color.
We have only 1 bin of 3-ply/DK weight yarns, so all the
colors are mixed in it. The other bins are 4-ply/Medium
weight and organized by color. We have 1 bin of Bulky+
weight yarns. As you go through the bins, please keep the
yarns organized as they are. If you take fleece crochet
edge kits, please return the bag and any unused yarn
to make new kits when you bring in finished blankets. If
you have yarn to donate, please give it to the Chapter
Coordinator first, do not put it in the bins directly.
REMINDERS
Please be sure to use scent free laundry detergent and dryer sheets when washing your blankets. If you would like to help with washing the blankets that come in, the Chapter Coordinator will have laundry supplies on hand for you to take with the bagged blankets.
All crocheters and knitters:
PLEASE please remember that the blankets you make may be subject to repeated washings and dryings and not necessarily on gentle settings. PLEASE make sure you weave in long ends (at least EIGHT INCHES OF YARN) each time you change colors. Recently several lovely knit/crochet blankets have literally disintegrated in the washer/dryer as an unsecured end in the middle has come out, leaving gaping holes in the blanket.
Also, we are suddenly receiving blankets with large holes in the pattern that might be great for a summer shawl, but are not suitable to provide comfort and warmth to children in need. If you are making a blanket for Project Linus, please select a blanket pattern with small or no holes in it.
Small balls of yarn are waiting to be adopted and made into corner to corner blankets. Even if you are not a crocheter, come give it a try (someone will be happy to instruct you!) - it’s fun, easy and a great way to use up the vast numbers of small balls of yarn we have.
All quilters:
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU’VE REMOVED ALL PINS before donating a blanket. PL National has reported that TWO children had been hurt by pins left in a seam. As a result, ALL BLANKETS need to be brought to a meeting or dropped off at a drop off point and then taken to a meeting so that each and every one can be vetted by another person. When labeling blankets, please check carefully for any errant pins.
With the fabulous fabric donations we’ve received, we have a mix of washed and unwashed fabrics. Please be sure all fabrics are washed before cutting and sewing, to avoid uneven shrinkage in your finished item.
FUNDRAISER - REGISTER NOW THROUGH JUNE 27
Register here: https://projectlinus.org/scrappy.php
Do you have bins of scrap fabric that you don’t know what to do with it? You hate to throw it away, thinking you’ll find a use for it “someday.” Scrappy Sewing with Patty (SSWP) is here! For our 2026 fundraiser we have 7 brand-new patterns that will help you make good use of those scraps. These scrappy patterns are beginner‑friendly and adaptable to all the fabrics and scraps you already have on hand. Scrappy patterns will be released to all registrants, one every other week, beginning on Saturday, April 4, 2026. The seventh pattern will be released on Saturday, June 27, 2026. Bonus patterns are released when we reach milestones. We hit the first bonus pattern right out of the gate when we had 1,000 people sign up nationwide. We’ll hit the next bonus pattern when we reach 1,700 people signed up. Right now we are at 1,251 people signed up. If you haven’t signed up yet and would like to, please do so. Our chapter gets the whole $20 donation if you designate it when you sign up. It will not apply retroactively so make sure you indicate when you register that you want the Annapolis, MD Chapter/Elena Johnson coordinator to receive the funds.
To register, you will need to make a donation of at least $20 (+ 3.093% credit card processing fee). Your donation can be designated for a specific Chapter, or it can be used to benefit all Project Linus Chapters. If you designate the Annapolis, MD Chapter/Elena Johnson Coordinator we get 100% of the funds. This is a great way to fundraise for our chapter. Encourage your family and friends to sign up for the patterns. Even if you don’t sew, and would like to donate $20 to our chapter go ahead and sign up. Click the link below for more information. Registration runs through June 27th when the final pattern is released so spread the word and encourage people to donate and sign up. After that the patterns will be available for purchase on the Project Linus Store.
LOOKING FOR A WAY TO DONATE TO OUR PROJECT LINUS CHAPTER?
Walmart has allowed us to set up a registry for folks who want to donate. We’ve placed a selection of anti-pill fleece (1 1/2 yard packages) in it and our intrepid volunteer Jane put it to the test. It arrives at my house in a couple of days. Click here for the registry If Walmart has items you want that aren’t on the list, email us! We can add them. Also, the registry can send you a donation receipt.Frustrated with a project (material/yarn not laying right, too much or not enough fabric/yarn, etc.)? Feel free to bring your problem project to our meeting for help and advice.
MINIMUM acceptable size is 32” by 32” That's larger than national PL rules -- this is a chapter-specific request. Larger is always better!
MATERIALS:
When donating yarn, PLEASE give it to the Chapter Coordinator and DO NOT put
it directly into the yarn bins (We’ve been getting too many wool and wool blends,
which we can’t use for Project Linus blankets)
When crafting blankets, please use machine washable yarns and fabrics,
and colors and patterns suitable for kids.
Drop-off Sites
You may drop them at any of these locations or bring to a monthly meeting. Please mark all bags with “Project Linus".
